DRAWINGS FOR THE GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER
In 1996 The Guardian newspaper ran a big feature in the Saturday Review on the Anarchist Bookfair with a look at current anarchism in Britain, written by the journalist, and anarchist, Richard Boston.
They used some of my portraits of anarchists to illustrate the piece, and so that’s how I began working for the Guardian. The first illustration I did was for an article on Privacy. I produced nearly 1000 drawings over 18 years, from 1996 until 2014 when I was sacked. In that time I illustrated three different columns but mainly I produced illustrations for the book review section. The first illustration I did was for an article on Privacy.
I also produced a set of small illustrations, vignettes, for the daily Country Diary column, which have been published every day since. I later published these illustrations as a book, The Country Diary Drawings.
Here are some of these illustrations.
